Tanzania Sells Over 100,000 Tonnes of Cashews in First Two Weeks of 2026/27 Auction Season
Mato Cashew | Industry & Market | 2 November 2026
Tanzania’s cashew sector has recorded a strong start to the 2026/27 marketing season, with more than 100,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts sold during the first two weeks of auctions, generating revenue exceeding 300 billion Tanzanian shillings (TZS).
According to Tanzania Daily News, citing the Tanzania Cashew Board (CBT), the sales were recorded through 10 auctions held between 12 and 25 October 2026.
Strong Early-Season Sales
The auction results highlight significant trading activity at the beginning of Tanzania’s new cashew marketing season.
Francis Alfred, Director General of the Tanzania Cashew Board, reported that more than 100,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts had been sold through the auction system.
The auctions generated more than TZS 300 billion in revenue, reflecting the substantial volume of cashew transactions during the reporting period.
High Quality of Raw Cashew Nuts
Product quality was another notable feature of the early-season results.
According to the CBT, more than 99.9% of the cashew nuts sold during the first two weeks were classified as grade one.
Auction prices for grade-one raw cashew nuts ranged from TZS 2,970 to TZS 3,430 per kilogram.
The CBT attributed the strong quality performance in part to farmers and other industry participants following technical guidance on maintaining crop quality.
Buyer Participation and Farmer Payments
The Tanzania Cashew Board also reported that 90 companies had registered to participate in the auction system, with 57 companies participating successfully and winning bids.
Payment performance was generally positive. Some buyers reportedly completed payments within one or two days, enabling primary cooperative societies to transfer payments to farmers promptly.
However, the board acknowledged that some buyers had delayed payments. It indicated that action was being taken under established regulations to address these cases.
What This Means for Cambodia’s Cashew Sector
Tanzania is an important raw cashew nut supplier in the international market. Its auction performance provides useful information for cashew-producing and processing countries, including Cambodia.
Large volumes of high-quality raw cashew nuts entering international trading channels may influence sourcing decisions and competition among buyers. However, the auction results alone do not establish a direct change in Cambodian farmgate prices.
For Cambodia, the report also highlights the importance of consistent raw material quality, transparent trading arrangements, and timely payments to farmers.
As Cambodia works to strengthen domestic cashew processing and value addition, developments in other major producing countries remain relevant to understanding international supply conditions.
Market Outlook
The first two weeks of Tanzania’s 2026/27 cashew auction season show strong sales activity, a high reported share of grade-one nuts, and broad buyer participation.
Further auction results will be important for assessing whether these early trends continue throughout the marketing season.
For Cambodian farmers, traders, and processors, monitoring Tanzania’s cashew supply and pricing developments can support a better understanding of regional and global market conditions.
